This guide was developed by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for universities, colleges, and tertiary and higher education institutions (HEI), believing that HEIs play a fundamental role in promoting sustainable behaviors. The aim of this guide is to help accelerate the process of mainstreaming ESDGs (“Education for the SDGs”) in universities, by helping stakeholders within and outside universities understand why universities should engage with ESDGs, what ESDGs looks like from an institutional perspective, and what steps they can take towards implementation. It also provides resources, tools, and case studies to inspire and support further action.
This guide focuses on helping HEI on a large scale; so, students, staff members, and any other stakeholder involved in education are welcome to use it to implement sustainable development in HEI.
