Birdsong project vol. 2

Short description

The second round of my 2021 UNI-ECO project: planting more bushes and placing more composters to enhance biodiversity and reduce green waste in 2022.

Long description

I would like to continue the project that I carried out as part of the previous UNI-ECO round in October. With some enthusiastic volunteers, we planted carefully selected bushes (bird- and insect-friendly) and put together 4 composters to get some of the university park's green waste back into the natural cycle. As everything worked out pretty well last time, I would like to continue the project next spring. For the next round, I would find even more available areas on campus where we could place more plants. This time, we could also place artificial nests for birds, as well as additional composters. Planting some flowers (maybe tulips, like last time) wouldn't only be great for insects, but for human joy as well. Naturally, this whole project aims to make the university campus more enjoyable for professors, students, and staff as well, as it is a well-known fact that being around more plants is great for our health and makes studying easier. Learning from the first project, I think I would be able to manage the financial aspects much better this time, as well as I would put more effort into advertising the project. I have no doubt volunteers would emerge without problem, especially since it will already be spring (and after the thesis deadline).

Scope of the project

ELTE's Lágymányosi Campus will be the location. I am hoping to invite volunteers from all over the university, not only from this campus, but anyone is welcome!

Budget

Last time we received 150 000 HUF for each project. I am hoping for more funding, but I could work with the same amount too.

How do you envisage dealing with COVID-19 restrictions?

The project is planned to be carried out outside in fresh air, so with the university's usual restrictions, it is possible to keep everyone safe.
