Emphasising Plug Load in research Labs
Short description
This project envisages applying a plug load meter to the highest electricity using device in each research laboratory in the TCD's School of Physics
Long description
Plug Load is some thing that can be controlled. leaving a high electricity on when not in use is a huge waste of electricity.
Applying a plug load meter to a high using electricity devise gives the user actual values of usage such as time, Wattage and current but more importantly kWh and cost.
Identifying a large electricity consumer in a laboratory is important as it highlights the importance of turning it off when not in use.
This project indents to purchase 30 plug in energy meters to share between the research laboratories in TCD's School of Physics so that all users of the lab can see in numbers how much energy the high energy using equipment is actually using.
This will hopefully result in lower energy demand for the School and also express the importance of conserving electricity.
Scope of the project
This project is initially designed for TCD's School of Physics research labs but with financial backing could be applied to every laboratory in the University
Budget
Each energy plug in meter cost approx. €16 and the estimate is to purchase 30 units.A approx. total of €480 would be required
How do you envisage dealing with COVID-19 restrictions?
Covid is not issue as no interactions is required
